2. File Extensions-   Check this out:  What is a file extension?

"A file extension, also called a filename extension, is the suffix at the end of a filename, which indicates what kind of file it is. For example, you can tell that the file "computer.jpg" is a JPEG image file, based on the ".jpg" file extension. Similarly, you can tell that "readme.txt" is a text document and "document.doc" is a Microsoft Word document. Knowing what extensions common file types use can be helpful." (FileInfo.net)

The File Extentions Project

1. Create a table in a Word, Pages or Google Docs.  See a sample table for this project

2. Use the File Extensions Website to Research common file extentions.

A. Select 10 common file extensions from the website above.

B. Record the following information in your table.  See a sample table for this project.

1. Type the File Extension Name.

2. Type the Category of File Type, for example .mov is a video file.

3. Type a Brief File Description.

             4. List the Windows and Mac Programs that open the file.

3. Adjust your table in the following ways:

   1. Make sure that your font size is the same throughout (12 or 14 pts)

   2. Make sure that your column headings are bold.

   3. Adjust your table column widths if necessary.

   4. Repeat the header column if necessary. (You will need to do this if your table goes onto a second page)

                  A. Select the row or rows of text that you want to use as a table heading. The selection must include the first row of the table.

     B. On the Table menu, click Heading Rows Repeat.
